How to Get Pest Control Leads in Australia (2026)

How to Get More Pest Control Leads in Australia
Most pest control leads in Australia come from Google search and Maps, real estate agent and building inspector referrals, and repeat customers. Set up your Google Business Profile as a Pest control service, ask every customer for a review, and send annual treatment reminders. Then build relationships with agents for pre-purchase inspection work.
Pest control marketing has something most trades would love: built in repeat work. Many treatments and inspections are done on a regular cycle, so a customer you win this year can be a customer for many years if you stay in touch. Add the steady flow of pre-purchase inspections that comes with property sales, and the seasonal spikes when pests turn up in force, and you have a business where planning beats scrambling. This guide covers where pest control leads come from, the free setup that matters most, where paid ads fit, and how to use lead sites without depending on them.
Where pest control leads come from in Australia
Pest control leads, including termite inspection leads, generally arrive through four doors.
- Google search and Maps. "Pest control near me", "termite inspection" plus a suburb, or something urgent like a rodent or wasp problem. Many of these searches come from someone who wants the problem gone this week.
- Lead sites. hipages, ServiceSeeking and Airtasker list pest jobs. They can help in a quiet patch, but you pay for access and the customer often gets several quotes.
- Referrals. Real estate agents, conveyancers, building inspectors, property managers and strata managers all deal with pest questions and inspections. These relationships can bring steady work.
- Repeat customers. Regular general pest treatments and termite inspections mean the best source of next year's work is often this year's customer list.

Google Business Profile for pest controllers
Your free Google Business Profile puts you in the map results when someone nearby searches. For a local service business it is usually the most valuable free listing you can have.
Choose the right primary category. The usual primary category is Pest control service, which appears in Google's business category list as tracked by PlePer's category tool (checked 3 October 2026). For termite work, this category guide recommends listing termite inspections and treatments as services inside your profile rather than relying on a separate category. Always confirm the exact wording in the category picker in your profile, and check there whether a more specific option suits you.
Set your service areas. Most pest businesses travel to customers, so set up as a service area business, hide your home address if you work from home, and list the suburbs you actually cover.
Use photos with care. Pest photos can put people off, so lead with photos of you and your team, your marked vehicle, inspection equipment and tidy work in progress. Before and after shots of a cleared roof space or a treated perimeter can work well. Keep adding fresh photos so the profile looks active.
Ask for reviews after every job. Text a direct link to your review page the same day. Reviews that mention reliability, clear explanations and how the problem was resolved are the most persuasive to the next customer. Our post on ranking for near me searches covers the other local signals that decide who shows up in the map pack.
Be clear about licensing. Pest management is licensed by state and territory regulators, and the requirements differ from state to state. Show your licence details where your state requires it and mention that you are licensed in your profile and on your website. It is a trust signal, and your state regulator is the place to check exactly what you must display.

Google Ads and Local Services Ads
Local Services Ads are Google's pay per lead ads that can appear at the top of search results with a verification badge, which Google now calls Google Verified. We checked Google's own Local Services Ads help pages for Australia on 3 October 2026 and could not confirm from Google's category list whether pest control is an eligible category here. So check whether your trade is eligible by starting the sign up in your Google Ads or Local Services account and seeing what is offered for your area. Google is also moving Local Services Ads management into Google Ads, so the process may change.
Standard Google Ads are available to any pest business and charge per click. A few habits make them work better:
- Run separate campaigns for termite inspections, general pest treatments and urgent jobs such as rodents or wasps, so you can see which earns the most.
- Adjust your ads with the seasons, pushing the pests that are most active at that time of year in your area.
- Add negative keywords for DIY searches, such as "spray", "bait", "how to" and hardware store names.
- Measure booked jobs and repeat customers, not just clicks. A customer who books an annual treatment is worth far more than one job.

The pest control angle: reminders, agents and seasons
Annual treatment reminders are your repeat engine. Many customers are happy to have regular treatments or inspections, but very few remember when the last one was. The business that reminds them usually gets the job. A simple setup:
- Record every job: customer details, address, treatment or inspection type and the date.
- At the end of each job, ask whether they would like a reminder when the next one is due, and note their answer.
- Send a short SMS or email at the right time, with an easy way to book.
- After the visit, ask for a review, and mention any other service that suits the property.
Australia's spam rules apply to these messages. The ACMA guidance on avoiding spam (checked 3 October 2026) says you need consent before sending marketing messages, must identify your business, and must include an unsubscribe option in every commercial message. Asking at the end of the job is a simple way to get that consent.
Pre-purchase building and pest inspections come through agents. When someone buys a property, a timber pest inspection is often part of their checks, either from a pest inspector directly or alongside a building inspector. Real estate agents, buyers' agents, conveyancers and building inspectors are the people buyers ask for a recommendation. To earn that work:
- Make a list of the agencies and building inspectors active in your area.
- Introduce yourself with what matters to them: how quickly you can inspect, how fast the report comes back, and how clearly it is written.
- Deliver on that promise every time. Agents and inspectors refer the people who keep sales on schedule.
- Stay in touch, and thank people when they send work your way.
Keep any referral arrangement honest and transparent with the buyer. A buyer needs to trust that the inspection is independent.
Seasonal pests drive search demand. Different pests become active at different times of the year, and the timing varies around the country. Watch what your customers ring about each month and plan around it: refresh your Google profile, ads and website pages before each busy period, not during it. A short seasonal post on your Google profile, such as a reminder that termite activity tends to pick up in warmer, humid weather in many areas, keeps you visible at the moment people start noticing.
Building this takes a few evenings, not a big budget. Our course for tradies covers the Google profile, reviews, ads and email and SMS follow up step by step.
Lead sites: use them, then rely on them less
Lead sites can help a pest business fill gaps, test a new area or get going without a website. They are quick to start with.
The trade off is that you usually pay to access an enquiry that other businesses can also see, so you race to respond and often compete on price. Reviews stay on the platform, and the customer may not think of you when their next treatment is due. Platforms also change: Oneflare, once a familiar option for Australian tradies, has closed.
If you are weighing them up, our breakdown of alternatives to renting leads from hipages and our look at ServiceSeeking for tradies explain how each model works.
