Best SEO Courses in Australia 2027: Prices, AI Search and Honest Picks
Oct 30, 2026
Updated January 2027 · Written by Adrian Prokopiec, 20 Minute Marketing
Quick answer: For most Australian small business owners and freelancers, the best SEO course for 2027 is 20 Minute Marketing's SEO course: $149 paid once, 32 self-paced lessons of about 20 minutes covering local SEO, Google Business Profile and AI search, with 12 months access and a 30 day money-back guarantee. Choose CCE, University of Sydney ($560) for a live trainer, AIM ($1,150) for a well-known name on your CV, or start free with HubSpot's AEO Fundamentals and Ahrefs' SEO Course for Beginners.
Learning SEO for 2027 is a different job to learning it two years ago. Google now answers a lot of searches with an AI summary before anyone sees a list of links, and the free training academies have rewritten their courses around that. Most paid course outlines haven't caught up yet.
We rechecked every SEO course in this guide on the provider's own page. Our full SEO course guide still has the detailed write-up of each provider. This page is the 2027 update: what's changed, what each course costs now, what you pay per hour of learning, and which courses actually teach AI search.

What's Changed for SEO Courses in 2027
Here's what's genuinely different for anyone learning SEO going into 2027.
1. AI answers are now a mainstream part of Google
Google says AI Overviews now has over 2.5 billion monthly active users and AI Mode has passed one billion monthly users, according to its June 2026 announcement on Google's official blog. Your customers are reading an AI summary first for many questions, so a 2027 SEO course has to cover how to be one of the sites that summary links to.
2. Search Console now shows AI visibility
In the same announcement Google added reporting on how pages appear in its generative AI features, broken down by country, and says these features had rolled out to all websites worldwide by 31 August 2026. For the first time, a small business can see whether it's being cited in AI answers rather than guessing. If a course doesn't teach Search Console, it can't teach you to measure this. Our Search Console guide for small business covers the basics.
3. Google has confirmed AI search is still SEO
Google's guide to optimising for generative AI features (last updated July 2026) says these features run on its core ranking and quality systems. It says you don't need special schema, llms.txt files or AI-specific rewriting, and it warns that no third-party tool has access to its AI systems. That's useful when choosing a course: be wary of anything selling secret "GEO hacks". What works is original, first-hand content on a site that's crawlable, fast and well organised.
4. The free academies have rebuilt around answer engines
HubSpot Academy's SEO page now leads to a free AEO Fundamentals certification. Semrush Academy's core courses have "AI Search" in their titles. Ahrefs has added a free Answer Engine Optimization course with its own certification exam, and Yoast now offers AI for SEO training. Free training has moved faster than paid training this year.
5. Paid course prices have held while formal study rose
Every paid SEO course in this guide is the same price it was when we checked in September and October 2026. Over a similar period, accredited marketing qualifications went up: our 2027 digital marketing course cost guide tracks a TAFE Queensland diploma rising from $5,535 to $5,740.
Our 2027 SEO Course Price Check
Two numbers we worked out ourselves from each provider's published figures. First, what each paid course costs per hour of learning. Second, whether the price moved since our original guide.
| Course | Price | Stated learning time | About per hour | Change since Sept/Oct 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20 Minute Marketing SEO course | $149 | About 10.7 hours (32 lessons of about 20 minutes) | $14 | No change |
| Monarch Institute SEO | $645 | 11 hours | $59 | No change |
| CCE, University of Sydney | $560 | 8 hours | $70 | No change |
| Upskilled | $770 | 4 to 6 hours of video | $128 to $193 | No change |
| AIM | $1,150 | One day, 9am to 5pm (8 hours including breaks) | $144 or more | No change |
Our calculation: price divided by the learning time each provider states. AIM's figure counts the full day including breaks, so the real per-hour cost is higher. Coursera is left out because it's sold by subscription rather than a fixed course price. Cost per hour isn't everything: a live trainer or a recognised name can be worth paying more for.
We also counted how many paid courses mention AI search on their own course page. Of the six paid options in this guide, two do: ours and CCE's. Upskilled mentions AI tools for keyword research and drafting, which is useful, but not how to appear in AI answers. If AI search matters to you in 2027, and it should, ask the provider before you pay.
The Best SEO Courses for 2027, Ranked
1. 20 Minute Marketing SEO course: best for Australian small business owners
Our SEO course is $149 paid once for 32 lessons of about 20 minutes, with 12 months access, tutor support, a Certificate of Completion and a 30 day money-back guarantee. It's built around Australian searches: local SEO for suburbs and service areas, Google Business Profile, Australian directories, and getting cited in AI answers alongside ranking in normal results. The lessons are short enough to do one, then go and apply it to your own site the same day.
Where it falls short: it's not accredited and we're not a registered training organisation, so it won't satisfy a job ad that asks for a formal qualification. There's no live class either. If you need either of those, choose CCE or AIM below.
2. CCE, University of Sydney: best for learning live
One 8 hour workshop from $560, face to face in Sydney or on Zoom, with sessions listed through 2027 including face-to-face dates in April, June and November and Zoom sessions in May and August. Its outline now covers AI search results, which puts it ahead of most paid options. A one-off workshop gives you notes rather than a library to revisit, so plan to apply it straight away.
3. Monarch Institute: best for a Digital Marketing Institute certificate
About 11 hours online for $645, ending in a Digital Marketing Institute certificate. Monarch is clear that this course is non-accredited. The outline doesn't mention AI search, so pair it with a free AEO course.
4. AIM: best for a recognised name
A one day course for $1,150 in a virtual classroom, or on campus in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, with an AIM certificate or digital badge. Good if your employer is paying and wants a familiar provider. For a business owner, it's a lot of money and a full working day for the fundamentals.
5. Upskilled: a self-paced certificate
$770 (down from an RRP of $899) for 4 to 6 hours of video across eight modules, delivered with Social Media College, with 12 months access. It's described as a non-accredited, industry-recognised short course. It's one of the more expensive options per hour.
6. Coursera UC Davis: best for depth
Five courses and about 62 hours, with a 4.6 rating from more than 13,000 reviews on the course page. Excellent depth, but it's a US course and its page doesn't mention AI search, so expect to fill that gap yourself.
7. Free: HubSpot, Ahrefs, Semrush and Yoast
Start here whatever you buy. HubSpot's AEO Fundamentals is the best free introduction to AI search. Ahrefs' SEO Course for Beginners is the quickest overview, and its separate free AEO course runs about 1 hour 26 minutes. Semrush gives free certificates, and Yoast suits WordPress sites. The catch is that each teaches through its own tools, and none tells you which tasks matter most for a small Australian business.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best SEO course in Australia for 2027?
For small business owners and freelancers, 20 Minute Marketing's SEO course: $149 paid once, 32 lessons of about 20 minutes covering local SEO, Google Business Profile and AI search, with 12 months access and a 30 day money-back guarantee. CCE, University of Sydney ($560) suits people who want a live trainer, and AIM ($1,150) suits people who want a well-known name on their CV.
Do SEO courses in 2027 teach AI Overviews and answer engine optimisation?
Not all of them. Of the six paid courses we checked in November 2026, only two (ours and CCE, University of Sydney) mention AI search on the course page. The free academies have moved faster: HubSpot's AEO Fundamentals, Semrush Academy's AI search courses and Ahrefs' AEO course all cover it.
What is the best free SEO course for 2027?
Start with HubSpot Academy's AEO Fundamentals (about 2 hours 20 minutes, free certificate) for AI search, then Ahrefs' SEO Course for Beginners (14 lessons, 2 hours, no sign-up) for the fundamentals. Semrush Academy adds free certificates, and Yoast has five free courses for WordPress users.
How much does an SEO course cost in Australia in 2027?
Based on prices checked in November 2026: free from HubSpot, Ahrefs and Semrush; $149 with 20 Minute Marketing; $560 at CCE, University of Sydney; $645 at Monarch Institute; $770 at Upskilled; and $1,150 at AIM. None of these paid prices changed between September and November 2026.
Do I need special schema or an llms.txt file to appear in Google's AI Overviews?
No. Google's own guidance says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, and you don't need special schema.org markup, AI text files or llms.txt. Pages need to be indexed and eligible for a snippet, and normal SEO best practice applies.
Is 20 Minute Marketing's SEO course accredited?
No. 20 Minute Marketing is not a registered training organisation and its courses are not nationally recognised training. Most SEO short courses in Australia, including Monarch's and Upskilled's, are also non-accredited. Why? You need to be on the tools to keep pace with what works. A university or TAFE has to approve a syllabus, and that takes months and years. By then the course content is stale. Accreditation also adds cost. Costs that have to be passed on. We'd rather that money go back into improving and modernising our courses not inflating government organisations coffers.
